Strouds 6th visual arts and open studios festival started on Saturday with a stunning line up of flags designed by international banner artist Shona Watt mounted on the footbridge across Merrywalks, and strung across various streets in the town centre. Not to be mistaken for the various other flags found all over the town for the football and jubilee celebrations, these flags have a certain colourful character.

Street entertainment was provided outside the Subscription Rooms in the form of Bernie Bennett with his tightrope skills.

Many art workshops around the town were open for the public to see the Stroud arts being produced and to speak to the artists.

Stroud has a timetable of entertainment taking place on most Saturdays throughout the summer.

Shona's work has been used for the Eden Project in Cornwall and Sydney Harbour.
