Stroud stages the first National Cone Day.

Well, not really, but any motorists using Merrywalks last week will probably have encountered the cone mania. The photographs sent in by Mr Davis, from Brimscombe shows it all rather well.

Basically, Mr Aquarod of Pontypool was squirting large amounts of water down a manhole on the roundabout.

The cones were an elaborate way to keep the traffic away from the workmen. It was also an elaborate way to stop you using the roundabout.

The work was completed within a few hours and the usual traffic chaos returned afterwards.
