Goodwill Evening - A Failed Report. December 9th 2001

The usual goodwill evening came and went last Friday, so I dispatched the Chronicle photographer, James T to go and take some cracking photographs of the event and to write an interesting story on it.

A simple enough task, even for Mr T.

He went, but sampled a little too much goodwill and after eating too many mince pies, helped down with plenty of drink , decided to sample the fairground rides that lined the main street. To be fair, it wasn't his fault. He was enticed by the DJ Mike Cool, and his conflicting DJ, Mike even cooler begging people to take a goodwill evening ride.

It was while on the thing like a long bench that rotates you to a great height that he dropped the camera, smashing it into a worthless mass of glass and plastic. The pictures were destroyed. So was James T.

He did manage to produce a verbal report once he felt better, saying that the streets were absolutely packed with people and stalls, all having a good time, except for a local girl called Lynn who had a very public row with her boyfriend Kevin in the middle of the bus station. This drew much attention from the festival goers, some of who thought that it was part of the festival. She eventually left in a flood of tears. Kevin stormed off to the pub.

On the same note (not the boy/girl thing) the town has a new set of Christmas lights this year. Gone is the spiders web of lights that once covered the bus station. This year we have rectangular panels of light's attached to lamp posts. The town speciality of putting long strings of lights in trees however, continues.

The new lighting panels depict either stars, or a Christmas tree with a strange curve above it. Personally, from a distance, I think it looks like a sign that suggests that a public telephone could be found underneath it. After getting another camera, James T has been around the town taking photos of the new lights and noted that the 'Stars' are all down one side of the road, while the 'Christmas Trees' with the strange curvy thing above it are all down the other side of the road.

In case you wanted to know.
