The final day of the Nailsworth Festival took place today, Sunday 7th May. In what can only be described as a 'fluke' the sun shone in a most magnificant way for the whole day. No really, it did. The first event of the day was a treasure hunt. I missed this event so I can't start to describe it to you. However, I hauled my camera gear up the 'W' to capure the days big event, the Five Valleys Postie Cycle Race. I would have taken part, except I would not have been able to capture the moment on film. From my lofty position, I was able to record the cyclists as they ground their way around one of the hairpin bends. I think the road was supposed to have been closed for the event but it wasn't. Leading the pack, in a white car with a go faster orange stripe down the side and blue flashing light was 'Bill'. I consider this to be cheating, and I presume the judges took this into account when dishing out the awards. The destination, the pub at the top was soon reached, and a mad blast back down the hill ensued. Again, 'Bill' lead the pack back down. With tyres screeching I thought he would go over the edge, but the little fiesta just managed to stay on the road. Did anyone fall off? well yes, but I failed to capture the moment. With no injuries the rider continued on down the hill to the finish. The 'prize' was a masterpiece in its own right. A complete bike had been melted down into a small round block, about the size of a 'CD'. A peddle was protruding from the centre, as a sort of carry handle. This was presented to the winner by the editor of the local paper, the SNJ.

The rest of the afternoon saw the bus station transformed into a BMX / Skateboard stunt park, complete with disco'ish sound system pumping out rap type stuff. Unlike the trolly race some weeks ago, this event had a huge turnout. I have never seen so many mountain bikes in one place. For more photographs of the event click here.
