Well yet again the weather did the most unexpected and provided the town with another hot sunny day for the annual Family Day. Taking place in the King George V playing fields, apparently known as KG5, various events took place during the afternoon. I was tempted by the pig roast until I saw it. I think it was the attached head that put me off! The queue for the ice cream van was the longest in the world, and a major crisis took place as the tea shop started to run out of cups. Various brass bands played various tunes, and Nailsworth Primary school put on a display of traditional dancing. The main feature of the event, a tethered air balloon giving rides didn’t materialize, due I believe to the strong gusts of wind. Even worse the 6:00 PM mass fly away was postponed until the later time of 8:00pm. This proved to be a most spectacular occasion, as when I went back to the playing field I discovered eight balloons unfurled on the ground. I'm not certain how many took off in total, as this web site was performing another first, with a live webcam view of the balloons. This was broadcast around the planet to an audience of well probably no one!
