The Nailsworth Centre for space research was established in 1972 by its two founders, Dr L Larson and Professor P Johnson. The centre is totally self funded, relying on sponsorship and sales from its own product range of super cooled lenses.
The centre is split into two main divisions. These are:
Optics
The Optics group are performing continuous research into new types of glass for the centres telescopes. The centre has a reputation for producing very high quality lenses that are sold throughout the world. Some say that this is due to the very pure local water supply. Others say it is due to the very high standards that the centre operates to. The current lenses are supercooled with liquid nitrogen and have superior optical performance with levels of distortion that are difficult to measure.
The special projects division gets to work on some very exciting projects, some of which are detailed below.
