My great grandmother Caroline Taylor Broadhead (1871 - 1955), though born in Barnsley & married in the Yorkshire area, spent the last few years of her life in Nailsworth. Her younger son Harry lived there with his family - my grandfather, her other child, lived in Canada - so she moved there to be near them. If anyone remembers these names, please contact me as I am trying to obtain some info on my great grandmother's life.

We are trying to identify a photograph (possibly 1902ish)of a butchers shop. The name over the shop is "Hobbs and Creed (cash butchers)" and the shop is no.14 on the corner of an unknown street. Our family (Hobbs) originally came from Poulton (Wilts/Glos). We have no idea of where this photo was taken, but as Creed seems to be local name in Nailsworth we were wondering if any one had any further information. It would appear to be a prosperous business with 4 men and a boy with a horse and trap. Many thanks, Marilyn Harding

Hi...I had established contact with long lost family members via this noticeboard, but due to a reformatting of my computer, have lost email addresses. (Note to self...in future, make "hard copies" of important addresses in case computer problems occur) The family in question was the Creed family of Nailsworth. There are three (3) daughters, all married now and possessing different surnames (I think). Their father is Bert Creed. If anyone knows any member of the family, please pass along that I am looking to make contact once again. Thanks very much for your help.

I have been researching my family from Gloucester through the 1901 census information. I found my Great Granny, Gertrude Burrus, nee Bignell and on the census it says she was born in Nailsworth. If anyone knows of any Bignell's who thinks that name may sound familiar, please give me an e-mail. She married William Burrus and had my granny, Alice, my aunts Rosalie and Jeanetta. Many thanks.

In one of the photos of The George Hotel, there is an old photo of the bar with a gentleman behind the bar (according to the description) 'George'. Could you tell me in what year (or approximately) that photo was taken? I am searching for documents, photos, bills, ledgers, well - anything really, during the time that the Pockett family ran the hotel. The Pocketts lived at and were proprietors of The George from about 1880 ('81) until 1906 when they cease appearing in Kelly's (post office directory) and other publications which list businesses and their proprietors.

Should anyone there know what became of Mrs. Pockett (Lucy Elizabeth) or her two daughters Blanche and Mary after 1906 I'd be grateful if they would contact me. Likewise anyone with old documents, photos or anything during that period. Debi Grimland

Hi
In 1942 I was evacuated to your town from Bristol and find it very difficult to find where I stayed during a four year period. I can remember being in a big house with a long drive, seeing my parents waving goodbye from a pair of rawt iron gates and watching army convoys passing the road outside, with me stood looking over the wall.

I paid your town a visit in the Summer but failed to get any information or see the house. Can anyone help, I`m still prepared to make return visit from Weston-s-Mare.

Ken Crane
Update...
The house was on a hill and I also remember my parents referring to the gardener called Mr Durston who had a black and white dog.

We've lived in Nailsworth since 1993 and have tried to research the history of our house - Brockley House. Old maps found at the Town Hall and in Gloucester records office show buildings on the site in early 1800 (not current house) and this house from 1900.

A lovely lady who lived at High Beeches has sent her memories of the "house with the garden of steps" and any other information or memories would be very welcome.

We are the youth of Nailsworth. We find that Nailsworth doesn't have anything to offer us and we think that something should be done about it. We get so bored and end up getting into trouble for something or another. We think that there should be somewhere where we can go on friday and saturday nights, like an under 18 night club or build better and bigger ramps. anyone who wants to help us reply via the email address given.

It's really great to be able to get the history of the place where my greatgrand parents were born and raised. Moses Smith (b 1832) & Hannah Stephens/Stevens were Married 1854 in Horsley and had eight children, before coming to Australia in 1883. Their eldest son John had married Jane Wilkins prior to leaving Nailsworth. I would be pleased to hear if any family members are still living in Nailsworth.

I am researching my husbands relatives. Thomas Benjamin Maysey Mills was born June 14, 1846 and was christened in Nailsworth - does anyone know where I could find anymore info on his family? He was married to Isabella Harvey and had 11 children, born in Horsley, but we believe christened in Nailsworth, one of them was my husband's grandfather, Egbert Mills. Would love to here from anyone in the area.

I have just enjoyed a few hours going through the Nailsworth web site. Great to see all the familiar places and read up on the latest news. Very sad to see what was the "George". I would just like to say "Hello" to everyone I knew in Nailsworth when I lived there and attended Miss. Benjamin's School.

Also , if anyone has any information on the WIGMORE - WRIGHT and HONE families from Nailsworth and Newmarket, I would appreciate any help in my Family Tree search.

Best wishes to all, Judy Brown (Wigmore). Victoria, Australia.

I Am often contacted by people researching their ancestors. I wonder if any one has any information about a "John Woodlands" at (presumably)" the Old George Inn. It was a long time ago. The date quoted is 1820. The enquirer is Heather Bullen from Queensland, Australia.

I am seeking any information on Wilfred Claude Perkins and his wife Louise Margaret who had a baby daughter Diana Mary Perkins in 1934.

I have very little information on them, or their relatives.
I am their great grandson. Apparently my mother (Diana) was born on the 9th April 1934 at Dunkirk Bank Nailsworth, I cannot find any info related to a Dunkirk Bank.

I am compiling my family history and my great great grandfather used to own the Upper Star Inn at Nailsworth. His name was Joseph WILKINS and he was born about 1829 in Avening parish. He had a child with Mary NICHOLS and then married a Louisa?? They had at least one son, Edward WILKINS.

Would anyone have any information on the family or the Upper Star Inn when they owned it? I do know that it is now a private residence called "Star Cottage".

Thanks in advance, Jenny (Wyong, NSW, Australia).
